Sorry, since the site update I must have hit some kinda bad button somewhere, but you had to register to leave a comment, this is now back to what it was, just requires an email (no need to subscribe) which will not be published anywhere. It’s just there to reduce services that try to spam the comments area… so we don’t get tempted to turn our tools on them. :P

Hilti GX 120 Gas-Driven fastening system

Hilti’s new GX 120 Gas-Driven fastener does just that, uses gas canisters and claims 750 nails. If you have friends that hunt, I wouldn’t lend it to them, for the sake of forests and nature.

Ideal for a wide range of repetitive fastening jobs, the GX 120 drives nails into concrete, rendered masonry, sand-lime block, concrete block and steel with ease. In non-stop fastening applications, you can drive 750 nails with a single gas can. Plus, you’ll never run out of gas unexpectedly because the unique LED gas level indicator displays how much gas is left at the touch of a button, eliminating guesswork as well as the need to remove and check the can.

So you have tons of deck to run and it’s hot, you wish you could use a nail gun, but want a screw in order to be able to make later adjustments or replacements. I myself prefer a screw even when putting up 2×4. But getting back to the decks, you have an option, it’s a sorta nail/screw… a screw that goes in using a nail gun, but then can be removed and reused using impact driver. Sorta the main page here. More ‘very serious’ videos can be seen here including one above… I guess he never smiles or laughs because a nail gun is serious business?

DeWALT is offering their new Lithium Ion batteries that will fit both the old and new tools. As some of you know, Lithium usually offers more power for less weight as well as no battery memory, which means you don’t have to wrap a rubber band around your trigger (or some funny contraptions I’ve come up with) to run your tool till the battery completely dies out… I’m not a fan of useless tool wear especially at the price they cost. Yes, here we are again with good old Lazy Learn Something Sunday Tool Talk chopped down to L2S2T2 as to demonstrate my laziness in typing. No one has suggested anything, that’s ok, I’ve got tons of them up my sleve. Therefore I offer this clean, straight forward as well as humorous article by Allan’s Wood Miser’s Workshop on Hinges and why the butt hinge is not always the solution. He shows us some of the more common cabinet hinges and getting the best for the best price. Here is a direct link

Be sure to check out some of his other articles like the one on fasteners.

Lee Valley - Digital Angle - 30th anniversary

Lee Valley is offering a Digital Angle Finder as part of its 30th anniversary specials for only $19.95 (think that’s CAN). See here for more info

Don’t let the price fool you – this is not a flimsy, imprecise tool. It instantly measures absolute and relative angles within a 225° range, making it invaluable for layout work, machine set-up (table-saw blades, jointer fences, etc.), and trim installation.

AWDirect[In The Ditch] Folding Double J-Hooks

Reader brought this to my attention. AWDirect [www.awdirect.com] offers these industrial strength “Folding Double J-Hooks” that appear heavy duty made - by “In The Ditch”. Also are less expensive then the other ones I posted few days back, so they don’t have powder coating, in a garage should be fine.

After some 20 years of meditation with the masters on top of… that mountain. Realized how plastic sucks for mother earth, as well as how much crap we throw out just because it’s made… well like crap. So now I’m looking mostly at buying long lasting and better: non-plastic stuff where ever I can. If you think I’m turning into a wild tool wilding yuppie - Consider this 12 part show, entertaining and educational video of “Toxic - Garbage Island” on www.VBS.tv and soon you realize we will have to change our ways soon - or more so, it’s almost too late.
